Song 10: From a Room

From a Room is another two chord song, recorded on a computer’s internal microphone. Woody Guthrie said if you use more than two chords you’re just showing off, or something like that. Pretty soon I’m going to have my old recording set up back up, then I’ll show off.

Lyrics now available.

From a room
The night moves slowly when you’re lights are off
From a room
I can’t see to occupy all my time

Where did it go when the car went out and the light’s blacked out?
Where did it go when the god left the post and the mockingbird split down the black road?

From a room
I can see them walking I can see they’re blind and I can see a tire
I can see painted men starting small fires with their teeth clenched

From a room
You can light a wet cigar
From a room
My hands are dry and I part my hair

Where did it go when the face went blank and the tire rolled off?
Where did it go with the barn in the night and the slash cut the light and
It got all quiet?

From a room
I can spin in circle I can touch my sleep
From a room
I cut shoelaces from my cigarettes,
And I smoked a lot of cigarettes and I burned the carpet with a cigarette, and the room filled with smoke

From a room
I can sell you a painting of a red rabbit in a top hat coming out of an egg
From a room
The coffee’s cold, the mirror’s cold, my hand’s are cold, my feet are cold

I’m getting younger in here
Getting scared
Deceitful

From a room
The night moves slowly when your lights are off and you can’t seem to occupy yourself
And your clock is broken
And your batteries fell out
And your alarm never went off
